My mother put knitting needles in my hands when I was about five years old. Since then I have loved the feel of fibers as I worked them into tangible objects. Being a tactile process artist I am interested in all materials that appeal to my senses, especially texture, line and color. My early work had plenty of mistakes, oddly shaped stitches and was rarely functional.
Since that time I have had an on again - off again love affair with knitting. I usually pick up the needles when the weather finally gets cool. In the last year, however, I have spent many hours working on scarves, shawls and hats. Why the change? My daughter now lives up north, and she has to deal with actual cold weather.
I enjoy working with many fibers, but alpaca tops the list followed closely by blends made with silk, bamboo and cashmere.
My latest interests lean toward, complex cables, colorwork and dying fibers. I am just beginning to spin my own fibers.
